While I hope you are having a good holiday season, sharing it with your family and friends, and I hope to see you at the Sheriff’s Office Christmas party, I am in need of your assistance.
As it stands the County Commission has presented a budget that includes no increases for the Sheriff’s Office in 2016. We had asked to re-implement our pay scale, since Deputies have not had any merit increases in the last 5, now going on 6 years. In this same time our LAGERS retirement was cut by half and we have been required to pay more for insurance. All of this while we continue to see substantial increases in our jail population and the number of incidents we deal with annually. While we understand that the current Commission did not create the financial burdens that they are dealing with, for the last 5 years we have asked for funding and been told not this year. It now appears that “not this year” could possibly be their answer for some years to come. Therefore, we are asking for a public show of support for this office and the men and women that work here. The County Commission will have 2 hearings for public comment on the budget. These meetings will be held Thursday, December 10th at 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. in the old county courthouse. We ask that anyone that can attend, please show up and support us. Tell your family, friends and neighbors and ask for their support. We do not want to attack the commission or even question them about their budget. We simply ask that you show up and if you wish to speak, just state your name, that you live in this county, that you pay taxes and vote, and that you are in support of the Sheriff’s Office.
